Welcome to Beech!

From September, Year 1 will be introducing the approach of Continuous Provision, building on the learning experiences the children have been used to in the Foundation Stage. This will help make the transition into Key Stage One feel smooth and familiar, whilst continuing to support children to become increasingly independent, confident and curious learners.

Through a mixture of adult-led teaching and carefully planned provision, children will have lots of opportunities to explore, investigate, practise and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Our provision will be linked to our exciting thematic-based curriculum, with activities designed to develop foundational skills across all areas of the curriculum.

In Year One, children will be encouraged to make choices, solve problems, work collaboratively and follow their own ideas, while teachers carefully observe, support and extend their learning through careful questioning and planned activities.

We are very excited to begin this next step in our learning journey together and look forward to sharing the children’s experiences with you!

Our Current Topics are:

Each new topic is introduced with a "WOW" start, which is designed to hook the children’s attention, allowing them to share what they already know and ask questions they want to find the answers to.  At the end of a topic, an "innovate" challenge is set, based on all previous learning. Children then have the opportunity to display the skills they have developed and the knowledge they have gathered.  This part of the learning cycle is called "express".

The children will continue through the Jolly Phonics programme each day and bring spellings home each week. There will be opportunity for children to practise at home and plenty of support and guidance is available if you need it.
