A typical day

A typical day at Chimneytots:

· Self-registration – we find our own names every day.

· Getting busy – child-initiated learning – we choose where to play in Chimneytots.

· Whole class activity – we do activities related to our topics based on what we are interested in. These activities cover the specific areas of the curriculum - Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design as well as an introduction to early phonics. This helps us to distinguish between different sounds, to recognise rhyming words and to hear sounds in words.

· Group activities – adults lead activities that follow on from our whole class learning. We also use this time for small groups to do busy finger activities which support our fine motor skills as our pre-writing skills develop.

· Child-initiated learning – we choose where to play in Pre-School. There is so much to do - we love playing inside and outside.

· Snack time- (happens within child initiated learning time) we sit down at a table with our friends and an adult helps us if we need it.

· Child-initiated learning – there is some more time to play.

· Story time/Singing – we love listening to stories and singing rhymes and songs.

· Home time/Lunch time - our grown-ups come to pick us up or we can stay for lunch and eat together in Chimneytots.

· Afternoon session children (follows a similar structure to the mornings) - find their name for self-registration.
